Great win for U17s

Buckinghamshire U17s welcomed Oxfordshire RFU to Aylesbury RFC on Sunday, 17th May 2026, for the latest fixture in the County U17 boys’ programme. With both teams always delivering a competitive encounter played in excellent spirit, this match was no exception.

This was the squad’s third outing of the season, following their opener against Coventry Academy and a training and development game against East Midlands RFU. The Bucks squad were eager to build on their impressive start, with preparations well underway for the upcoming Jamaica RFU matches scheduled for 21st June.

Bucks made a strong start, applying early pressure from the kick-off. Their intensity in tackling within Oxfordshire’s 22 led to turnovers, and patient phase play created space, with sound decision-making and handling contributing to their attacking momentum.

Oxfordshire responded with resolute defending and looked to increase their own attacking pressure. However, Bucks’ defensive indiscipline under Oxfordshire’s pressure resulted in a flurry of penalties. The Bucks regrouped and reasserted their defensive structure and attacking play, finishing the first half with a 4 tries to 1 lead.

The second half saw Oxfordshire come out determined, applying pressure and causing Bucks to lose some of their first-half structure and execution. Oxfordshire’s strong play resulted in two unopposed tries in the second half, bringing the final score to Bucks 4 tries, Oxfordshire 3 tries.

Both teams put in excellent performances, continuing their development ahead of progressing into the U18 programme later this year. Many thanks to Aylesbury RFC, the referee, and Oxfordshire RFU for helping to make this a fantastic day of County Rugby.
