Coaching & Refereeing Awards

Looking ahead to next season, it is a great time to start thinking about how you can develop yourself or the coaching set-up at your club.


There are a couple of great courses being run in the county for coaching and refereeing.


England Rugby Coaching Award (ERCA)

Minimum age: 16

Cost: £75.00


Entry point for those coaching U12 and above. Provides the knowledge, skills and attributes to safely and effectively coach young players and adults.


The course consists of a face-to-face day in October/November 2022, followed by a series of webinars in January, February, March and April. Coaches will then attend a second face-to-face day in June/July 2023. Each webinar will include a monthly task to complete in the context of their own coaching.

  • Participants will get access to digital resources to support their coaching and join a monthly online community of practice for additional support.

  • Participants must complete all webinars.

  • Participants must attend both face-to-face days.

  • Attendees must have completed the RFU online Headcase Concussion Awareness Training Module https://www.englandrugby.com/participation/playing/headcase prior to booking onto the course.

England Rugby Referee Award (ERRA)

Cost: £75.00


This competency based course is the entry point for those wishing to referee the 15-a-side game, it provides referees with the knowledge, skills and attributes to effectively referee young players and adults and develops the learner in a practical based environment.


The course consists of a face-to-face day in October/November 2022, followed by a series of webinars in January, February, March and April. Referees will then attend a second face-to-face day in May/June 2022. Each webinar will include a monthly task to complete in the context of your own refereeing.


Participants will get access to digital resources to support their coaching and join a monthly online community of practice for additional support.

  • Participants must complete all webinars.

  • Participants must attend both face-to-face days.
